NAME: Shannan Scott
PROFESSION: Big Picture Business Strategist helping entrepreneurs tap into their best ideas, take more aligned (and intentional!) action & tackle big plans & projects with ease so they can create the impact & income they've always dreamed of.
Founder, Made For More Collective, a brand based on the belief that blazing your own unconventional path, going against the grain and refusing to settle for average will lead you to a life that lights you up - the life you've always known you were made for.
GOAL FOR THE YEAR: My goal this year is to spend less time behind my computer and more time out in the world connecting and collaborating with other entrepreneurs, live and in person! I truly believe that business moves at the speed of relationships and that an idea can take off that much quicker when the right people are on board.
WHY DID YOU START YOUR CAREER?
I am sort of an accidental entrepreneur. I never dreamed of being one. I always thought I'd do the corporate thing, work my way up the ladder and score the big corner office. But after being exposed to the world of online business after completing a health coaching certification (out of newfound love for nutrition), I became very curious. Especially since I was losing passion for my corporate career in events and craving more creativity and freedom. I felt constricted in my cubicle and knew I had untapped potential. So I decided to give this entrepreneurial thing a try and the rest is history!
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY FOR YOU LOOK LIKE?
My mornings are for me, so I usually don't sit down at my desk until about 11am. I like to create a lot of space to exercise, cook a nourishing breakfast, and either read or listen to a podcast. Once 11 am hits, I'm at my desk tackling my to-do list, jumping on connection calls or meeting with clients. I usually wrap things up around 4 or 5pm to relax and enjoy the evening with my husband. We cook dinner and often Netflix and chill.
WHAT ARE YOUR FIRST THOUGHTS IN THE MORNING?
I usually say a quick prayer of thanks or express gratitude for the new day.
WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?
I'm passionate about community, travel and helping others dare to do life differently and take action on their dreams.
TELL US A LITTLE MORE ABOUT YOURSELF (CHILDHOOD, UPBRINGING, HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY).
I'm just a Canadian girl living out loud in California! Last year, I left my 5+ year corporate career to live a more intentional and inspired life.
WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST HURDLE WHEN YOU STARTED YOUR CAREER?
The biggest hurdle for me as a new business owner was comparison. I spent my first year in business working just outside my zone of genius. I wasn't in alignment. I was heavily influenced by what my mentors and peers were doing that it was tough to stay in my own lane. But after giving myself some space and slowing down my pace, I began to pivot and shift until things started flowing and feeling really good.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU? HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN THAT MOTIVATION?
I'm someone who likes to plan fun and joy into my days, weeks and months. I treat these events as incentives to help me get through the tough days of entrepreneurship, that way I always have something to look forward to. Knowing and understanding how my business impacts others is also a source of motivation for me.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE TO DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Most weekends you can find me either worshiping the sun at a beach in San Diego or venturing off to explore the newest farmer's market, taco joint or local fitness studio.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR WOMEN ENTERING YOUR FIELD?
The two pieces of advice I'd offer women entering the world of entrepreneurship would be:
1. Get to know yourself really really well and base your business on your own personal strengths.
2. Make relationship building your #1 focus every day.
HOW DO YOU FIND THE TIME?
I believe it's not about doing #allthethings, it's about doing the few things that matter most.
